Herniated lumbar disc L5/SI. Recovery or Surgery? (PART IV) RESORPTION

by Velja Radenković on Jul.27, 2011, under Life

I found evidence that proves that resorption occurs. First example is very similar to my extrusion, same level etc. Mine is maybe 1mm smaller on right side.

http://neurosurgery.dergisi.org/pdf/pdf_JTN_615.pdf

And some other document describing same thing: http://www.med.nyu.edu/pmr/residency/resources/general%20MSK%20and%20Pain/determinants%20of%20HNP%20resorption_Spine.pdf

From now: I think that things will resolve like this in my case too.

Herniated lumbar disc L5/SI. Recovery or Surgery? (PART III)

by Velja Radenković on Jul.06, 2011, under Life

OK. I still have some pain occasionally but it is loosing intensity + I don’t have any pain when I manage to swim or fast walk few days in a row. Weather is bad so I can not swim on rivers, lakes and only open pool works in summer here. I am sure that pain can be managed using physical activity.

I played some basketball today. My jump is poor and it is obvious that affected leg is weaker then healthy one when I try to run fast. Slow run and walk do not show any difference between legs. 2 months ago I could only dream about playing basketball so I am pretty much happy with this. I am still short for 3 points. Ball falls 20-30 centimeters short.

I am driving motorcycle every day. I ware a bracer while driving. I am trying to avoid car. I drive bicycle occasionally.

I have a discomfort while sitting. I often sit on a therapy ball and I often work in standing position on laptop.

I am trying to keep my mind off this damn thing because when I think about it kills my morale.

I am still happy with the fact that I didn’t do surgery.

When there is a pain it is leg pain only. No back pain at all.

Again, I have severe L5/S1 herniated disc pressing S1 nerve. Tear is 1,6 centimeters long (I measured on MRI. There is a small scale next to images).

If there is anyone with long term experience with conservative treatment I would appreciate any word. I would especially appreciate any success stories because that is what I need now – a success story.

windows 7 the specified network password is not correct / Windows 7 can not access share

by Velja Radenković on Jun.07, 2011, under Technology, Tips&Tricks

I recently installed oracle / sun virtual box and network sharing stopped working after that. I was unable to access network share. It was prompting for credentials continuously and on correct credentials I was getting “the specified network password is not correct”.

The solution (if this is your case) is to disable virtualbox network adapter.

If you didn’t install virtual box you may check if clocks (time and date) are same on both (n) machines. Also try to google for “windows 7 the specified network password is not correct” it finds few more things that can help you.

Herniated lumbar disc L5/S1. Recovery or Surgery? (PART II)

by Velja Radenković on Jun.03, 2011, under Herniated lumpar disc L5 S1

Last week some of the pain returned but lasted only 2-3 days and was 1/100 of what I was experiencing when I collapsed first time. I took few medication those 2-3 days and it went away. I am 100% sure I didn’t reinjure my back so it must be a phase or something like that. I am not taking medications since then.

My hamstrings are still very tight. I am trying to stretch them every day through exercises but improvement is unnoticeable.

What happened in between?
I spent 3 weeks doing physical therapy in the water and another week doing stretching and strengthening exercises.
I started swimming freestyle every day. I do not stay long in cold water. I enter the pool, swim 250 meters and I get out ASAP. I will try to increase swimming distance keeping same intensity. I still remember myself swimming 10-20 kilometers twice per day when I was competing (around 15 years ago :| ).
I lost 14 kilograms until now. I am at ideal weight i.e. 85 kilograms. And I did it only by removing bad things from my diet and not eating after 8PM at all.
I am also trying to help my immune system by taking some Vitamin C, B, Magnesium.

I will continue with above since it looks that things are getting better. My biggest problem for now is patience. Sometimes I just cant wait it to go away. However I believe in recovery more and more.

Herniated lumbar disc L5/SI. Recovery or Surgery?

by Velja Radenković on May.07, 2011, under Herniated lumpar disc L5 S1

35 days ago I collapsed in pain that I couldn’t imagine before. I received a lot of injections within 2 weeks and I went to MRI examination which shown that I have severe disk herniation in L5/S1 level and very small one on L4/L5. I went with MRI results to neuro surgeon and he suggested surgery. In few days I went to another neuro sugeon for second opinion and she suggested same :| .

I scheduled a surgery for may 4th and went to hospital day before. There neuro surgeon spotted that I am walking normally and he asked me to wait in my bed until he returns. Then we performed some neurological tests and he recognized that I recovered well within 2 weeks and sent me back home to try with physical therapy. On Monday I am starting with PT in water environment I will have it for 3 weeks.

At this moment I don’t have any leg/back pain. I have some discomfort and right leg didn’t recover 100%.

For now I am glad that there is small possibility that I will recover from this without surgery. I will post any progress or changes here. I will also post my MRI results when I scan them.

PayPal u Srbiji od 2010. godine

by Velja Radenković on Mar.29, 2010, under Life, Technology

Žalbe klijenata i negativna kampanja

Među “preko 100 miliona” klijenata širom sveta postoje i oni nezadovljni.

ASP.NET making Check Boxes behave like Radio Buttons (CheckBoxes acting like RadioButtons, mimic RadioButtons group behavior with CheckBoxes)

by Velja Radenković on Jan.21, 2010, under Technology

Designers like to draw Check Boxes used for single selection instead of Radio Buttons. Further more I often hear that they (check boxes) look better than radios. So I had to make Check Boxes mimic Radio Buttons behavior.
When you think about it, it should not be hard to implement …

What we need:
1. When one CheckBox is checked all others (in same group) should uncheck
2. We should disable unchecking of already checked CheckBox with click on it

Lets say we have 3 radio buttons with ids: CheckBox1, CheckBox2 and CheckBox3 and we want them to mimic radio button group. When radio button CheckBox1 is clicked we want other 2 check boxes to be unchecked. Also if CheckBox1 is already in checked state, we dont want it to be unchecked if user clicks on it again.

Javascript code for above:

if(document.getElementById('CheckBox1').checked)
{
    document.getElementById('CheckBox2').checked = false;
    document.getElementById('CheckBox3').checked = false;
}
else
{
    //Disable unchecking of already checked Check Box with click on it
    this.checked = true;
}

Having in mind that you have to do above javascript for every check box in group and further more for every check box in every group on page (I had 11 groups), the need for utility function that will write this javascript code for us is obvious. Below is utility function that will make any collection of CheckBoxes
behave like Radio Button group does.

private void makeRadioGroupFromCheckBoxes(IEnumerable checkBoxes)
{
    StringBuilder sb = new StringBuilder();
    foreach (CheckBox cb in checkBoxes)
    {
        foreach (CheckBox innercb in checkBoxes)
        {
            if (innercb != cb)
            {
                sb.Append("document.getElementById('");
                sb.Append(innercb.ClientID);
                sb.Append("').checked = false;");
            }
        }
        cb.Attributes["onclick"] = "if(this.checked){" + sb.ToString() + "}else{this.checked = true}";

        sb = new StringBuilder();
    }
}

And finally working example and code download.

‘TableRow’ cannot have children of type ….

by Velja Radenković on Jul.16, 2009, under Technology, Tips&Tricks

Little hack if you really need to do this.
Instead of using TableRow control:

Table row = new TableRow();
row.Controls.Add(button1);

which throws exception from title “‘TableRow’ cannot have children of type” use:

HtmlGenericControl tableRow = null;
tableRow = new HtmlGenericControl("tr");
tableRow.Controls.Add(button1);

SELECT COUNT mysql resulting in “FUNCTION DBNAME.COUNT does not exist” ?

by Velja Radenković on May.07, 2009, under Technology, Tips&Tricks

If there is a space between COUNT and first bracket that surrounds parameters it should be removed. Simply:

SELECT COUNT (LEAGUE_MEMBERS.ID) FROM LEAGUE_MEMBERS -> Doesn't work
SELECT COUNT(LEAGUE_MEMBERS.ID) FROM LEAGUE_MEMBERS -> Works

joomla __php_incomplete_class_, instance of non joomla class in JSession

by Velja Radenković on Apr.17, 2009, under Technology, Tips&Tricks

You cant store instances of your own classes in the session in Joomla. In fact you can store them but when you try to get them back you will get __php_incomplete_class_.
Joomla calls session start when session objects are unserialized and at that moment your classes/types are still not defined. Joomla framework doesn’t provide method to define your classes before deserialization.

So, if you are here looking for solution quit it, stick to arrays and php types and don’t waste your time. You can always hack the core but I decided not to …

Unanswered posts about this issue and some of them are on this forum:

I hope future releases will solve this issue (feature?).

asp.net countries dropdownlist including Serbia and Montenegro

by Velja Radenković on Feb.25, 2009, under Life, Tips&Tricks

Yes, yes there is one or more asp:DropDownList listing countries already available. Reason I am posting this is because I don’t see a single one including 2 countries that are here from 2006.

Serbia is my country and my grandfather and grandmother are from Montenegro. Lists excluding my 2 countries are spreading on the internet and that is not right.

Yugoslavia doesn’t exist anymore. Instead:
1. Serbia
2. Montenegro
are there.

ISO_3166-1_alpha-2 (source) for those to are:
1. RS for Serbia
2. ME for Montenegro

I took one list from here excluded Yugoslavia and included its successors. I also posted comment hoping that they’ll do same.

“Download whole sites” program -> Free Teleport Pro alternative

by Velja Radenković on Feb.15, 2009, under Tips&Tricks

Skip first paragraph if you are in hurry …
Hour ago my wife asked me to download bunch of files from her faculty site. I wasn’t feeling like right clicking links and doing Save As 200x times so I was thinking about writing Python robot for doing that … Which would be an overkill. Then I remembered some program I was using earlier called Teleport Pro and then again I remembered that it is not free. Searched for free alternative to Teleport Pro and found WGET. So if you need tool for downloading files from www using HTTP and FTP protocols WGET is a thing to try. Since I use windows more than linux last days I’ll focus on windows port.

WGET for win is located here.

Under Downloads (here for lazy ones) download and install the first one i.e. “Complete package, except sources”.

Usage:
Lets say we want to download nice Honda Gallery located @ http://www.motorera.com/honda/index.htm

we do:

C:\>"C:\Program Files\GnuWin32\bin\wget.exe" -np -r http://www.motorera.com/honda/index.htm -P "C:\honda"

C:\Program Files\GnuWin32 is path where WGET is installed.
-np tells wget not to go above parent dir in this case http://www.motorera.com/honda/
-r means recursive i.e. follow links
-P points to directory where you want to save your files

So when this command executes (which will last some time) you should have entire galery under D:\honda\www.motorera.com\honda\

The bad thing here is that links in all documents are still absolute i.e. they still point to www location!?

I’ll stop here. Show some interest and I’ll explain how to make the program display relative links or if you like to chew on your own read man which is located at http://lmgtfy.com/?q=WGET+man.

Displaying Custom Message in Validation Summary -> ASP.NET

by Velja Radenković on Sep.18, 2008, under Technology, Tips&Tricks

One of the things I have been doing on all kinds of wrong ways for a long time …

http://www.extremeexperts.com/Net/FAQ/DisplayCustomMsgInValidationSummary.aspx

Have in mind ValidationGroup prop of CustomValidator if your ValidationSummary specifies it.

I wonder why I didn’t Google it before.

An unhandled exception of type System.Threading.ThreadAbortException occurred in Unknown Module, unexpected session end, ( asp.net, c# )

by Velja Radenković on Feb.04, 2007, under Tips&Tricks

Symptoms:
1. aspnet_wp.exe process restarts.
2. Your session is invalidated (Session_End is called without obvious reason)
3. 1, 2, followed with message `An unhandled exception of type `System.Threading.ThreadAbortException` occurred in Unknown Module`

First question that you should ask yourself is: Does my web application changes any file located under bin directory during its runtime?

I saw some developers :) putting their data files (for example Access database :) ) in bin directory of ASP.NET web application.

IIS watches that directory for changes and on any change it restarts asp.net worker process to reload the application context.

Put your database (or whatever) somewhere else outside bin dir. There are other decent ways to forbid access to those files.
